Realistically, most of us can’t afford to be dressed head to toe in the latest designer collections.  We go for fashionable styles from more reasonably priced sources.  But many of us have at least one weakness; one thing that we simply have to indulge in.  Some people spend a week’s wages on diesel jeans to get the right fit, some substitute on meals to be able to afford a Prada leather handbag.  I want to know what you think, if anything, is worth splashing the cash on.

Despite the classy and opulent styles around, there is an increasing trend towards the use of denim for different occasions.  Many people are now opting to wear jeans even to parties and using accessories to dress them up.  This is why the latest jeans around are much darker than they have been for a while because they tend to look smarter and slicker than the faded jeans.  Dark blue and black, smart jeans are very much in and the lighter, bleached, and frayed jeans are out.  How many of you wear jeans to go out in?  Who thinks jeans should stay casual and prefers the more faded, distressed jeans?

H&M will be working with Madonna for a second time and introducing a new collection of clothes and accessories called ‘M by Madonna’.  Madonna has been at the forefront of fashion throughout her 20 odd years as a pop star, and as a huge inspiration to millions of fans, the launch is bound to be a roaring success.  We will see the ‘M by Madonna’ collection in H&M stores worldwide from March 2007 and, I will be at the front of the queue! Is anyone else as excited?

Tunic styled tops and dresses are an easy trend to follow this season because they look great on everyone, not just the catwalk models. In fact they make us look better as they provide a sliming effect due to their long lengths. They also create a trendy and classy look even when worn with jeans.  Some tips when choosing your tunic; if you want to slim down your curves avoid empire waist tunics, ensure that the tunic finishes mid- thigh because if it’s any longer it will make you look dumpy, and finally, wear them with bottoms that don’t have lumpy pockets otherwise they show up as bumps underneath the tunic!

If you are on the run and you don’t have time to make an effort when getting dressed, then throw on a napoleonic jacket to instantly smarten your outfit up. One of the main trends currently in fashion is the napoleonic trend. Think ancient military style; particularly double breasted jackets with big brass buttons and high collars. I have a winter napoleonic styled coat and even though its thick, the style is dashing enough that I can glam up my old jeans just for going shopping. You can make your napoleonic coat look even trendier with a wide belt or double belts, knee high boots and a leather bag.

I’ve noticed 2 trends that have come head to head in shop windows this season.  Ruffles and lace materials emerged in summer 2006 and this winter we are still seeing plenty of ruffles and lace frills.  Such materials are great for adding a feminine touch to the more mannish styles, but at the moment they are being used in abundance to trim up party outfits.  The second trend in shop windows right now is the metallic trend.  We are seeing plenty of silky shiny party outfits, especially in deep gold, as a bolder brighter alternative to frills. Which look do you prefer?

This year we have seen a return of one of the 80’s trends; the so tight they could be painted on bottoms AKA leggings!  They were reborn in the summer and have become even more popular this winter where we are seeing them worn in combination with other items as part of the layering trend. If you love skirts but hate showing your legs, leggings are a saviour. We can even get away with mini skirts whilst feeling comfortable and looking trendy. But are they comfortable to wear?  We all know how uncomfortable tights can be. Are leggings any better?

According to PETA, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals charity, Nicole Richie is the world’s worst dressed celebrity.  She was given the title because of her love of real fur.  Also near the top of this list were Ashley Olsen and Christina Ricci.  The fashion industry has come under attack in the last few months for the use of fur. Although many designers have dropped fur, several other designers continue to use it.  With fur being a fashionable trend this season I want to know opinions of others on the fur debate?  Do people still want to wear real fur? Most retailers offer a fake alternative. Is this ok? Or does it still encourage others to wear real fur?
