Amsterdam International fashion week (AIFW) started in July 2004 and has hosted several events ever since.  Throughout this time, it has been attracting an increasing number of international buyers, brands and press. 

What’s special about it?  Well the fact that it’s a show offering a directional alternative to the more traditional fashion events. It offers a programme with a range of varied activities such as lectures, parties and retail initiatives, alongside the commercial shows.  Its’ location, Amsterdam, fits in perfectly with the event as a city of inspiration and a vivacious place to do business.

Looking for a unique idea for a party?  Two weeks ago I went to a party organised by some friends at their house.  The party was hosted by fashion professional Galit Bauer, from b-good fashion, who brought along a range of fashion accessories including bags, scarves and jewellery.  The evening was a complete success; we had a great deal of fun discussing her collections and trying them on! With Christmas coming up it was a fantastic way to choose presents for each other. Audrey’s infamous black dress worn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s, was put up for auction at the beginning of the month and sold for a humongous £410,000! The dress was designed by Givenchy, and guess who had the winning bid? Givenchy! The company brought it back home. Even though I love Audrey, if I had the money I’m not sure I would pay that much for a dress. But apparently the money did go to charity so it’s definitely a worth while bid. Would you buy Audrey’s dress for that much money?

I couldn’t help but notice that several clothes stores are already subtly offering items at discount prices via discount vouchers.  Sales normally start after Christmas, so it leads us to believe that high street retailers may currently be suffering with their sales.  On the other hand, I have heard that some analysts have reported fashion retailers are experiencing an increase in spending.  Is anyone else confused?
